Solid planks, intricate grain patterns, and sophisticated looks give hardwood a truly timeless appeal. It’s easy to maintain and can last for generations.
What to Consider When Shopping for Hardwood
Luna wants you to love your floors, and that’s why we’re here: to help you find the perfect hardwood for your lifestyle and needs. Find out what you need to know about hardwood flooring – no risk of splinters here! Before you get started, ask yourself the following questions:
How do you use the room(s) where your new hardwood will be installed?
There are two types of hardwood flooring: solid hardwood and engineered hardwood. They each have their own unique strengths. If you're finishing your basement and/or have kids or pets, engineered hardwood is the way to go. For a natural, elegant aesthetic in your home office, consider solid hardwood. Let a professional from Luna help you determine what’s best for those rooms.
Which hardwood style is likely to influence the appearance of your home?
Hardwood floors offer a wide selection of styles depending on the look you're going for. Cherry and maple wood offer rich looks with reddish and light-colored stains. Hickory is great in rustic living rooms with its thick, hand-scraped textures and deep coloration. Oak provides the classic hardwood look and works in virtually any home. The looks hardwood can give your home are virtually endless. A flooring professional from Luna will show you many options to help you achieve the look you’re going for.
Solid Hardwood
Solid hardwood comes in stains from light to dark as well as styles from traditional to a more modern look. One thing is for sure – solid hardwood is a reliable flooring choice for the long-term homeowner. In addition to timeless designs and rich textures, solid hardwood has an unwavering reputation of longevity and increased home values. It’s hard to argue with a 3/4” thick, solid piece of real wood. High-traffic hallways, dining rooms, and even living rooms are all welcome environments. Cut from a single strip, hardwood can be sanded and refinished to last for generations.
Engineered Hardwood
For as prolific and versatile as solid hardwood is, engineered hardwood goes a step further. Composed of three to five distinct layers of real veneered wood, this floor is built for maximum durability and can be installed in more areas of the home vs solid hardwood. While solid hardwood offers authenticity and a single slab of wood, engineered hardwood has its own perks below the surface. It’s less likely to expand in changing humidity and temperatures and can be installed below-grade, in basements or areas with concrete. A high-density fiber core, several strips of real wood pressed together, and a protective finishing layer help engineered hardwood perform in ways that solid cannot. Resistant to spills, moisture, and scratching from pet claws, engineered hardwood is an excellent choice for homes seeking elegance without sacrificing a busy lifestyle.

Taking Care of Your Hardwood Floors
Beautiful hardwood is timeless and always in style. And it requires minimal upkeep. Yours will go far if you closely follow all manufacturer recommendations and stay proactive. Cleaning and maintaining solid and/or engineered hardwood can be simple:
Sweep up spills, crumbs, dust and dirt into piles. Use a vacuum without beater bars or mechanisms, which can scratch your floor. At least once a week is recommended.
Address standing liquids immediately with a clean, non-abrasive material. The less water and/or solution used, the better.
Hardwood is resilient, but not invincible. Avoid buffing machines, steel wool, scouring powder, and steam mops to help prevent surface abrasion and warping.
On in-stock carpet and flooring styles. Select areas only. Excludes floor prep. Installation may take longer than one day to complete.
